After months of waiting, it’s finally here. Summer has arrived in the North East of England – and it’s blissful. The sun is shining, the shorts make a rare appearance from the wardrobe, and barbeques are fired up in unison across the region.

As far as we’re aware, there’s no scientific explanation for the link between hot weather and delicious grilled meat, but there’s no doubting its existence. If you’re hankering for some outdoor cuisine at your event this summer, why settle for supermarket sausages and basic burgers when you and your guests could be enjoying a succulent spit roast?

Our roasts are a perfect alternative for weddings and special occasions, and, like all of our dishes, use only the finest locally sourced ingredients from around the region.

The hog is the traditional favourite, enjoyed by cultures and communities the world over for millennia. Our hogs hail from Northumberland farms, and are rubbed with garlic, olive oil, sea salt and cracked black pepper to bring out the full flavour of the meat. It is served with spiced apple and ginger sauce, or one of two types of stuffing – the time-honoured combination of pork, sage and onion, or the sweeter roasted parsnip, apple and sausagemeat – all within a large white bun.

Not a fan of pork? The other options are no less moreish. Our beef spit roast stotties are filled with whole roasted sides of Northumbrian beef, topped with generous helpings of horseradish sauce or mustard, with an optional ladle of gravy. The lamb variant is seasoned with garlic, rosemary, salt and pepper, and complemented with a choice of mint or redcurrant sauce – or, should you prefer to sample something a little different, our unique roasted parsnip, apricot and sausagemeat stuffing.

To paraphrase the good book, man shall not live by meat and bread alone. We offer two optional sides for an extra £2.50 a head, featuring no fewer than four different kinds of accompanying potatoes. Choose from roasted baby potatoes with garlic and rosemary; larger variants roasted in duck fat; thick spiced wedges; or our classic, no frills chips.

For a lighter, fresh bite with your delectable roast, you can pick three of our five salads for the same price (+£2.50). The selection ranges from a simple mixed leaf to the ever-popular Waldorf, and also includes a potato, mustard mayo and herb salad, a juicy tomato salad dressed with balsamic vinaigrette, or a red cabbage and cheese coleslaw, packed with flavour and crunch.

We also offer desserts – cheesecakes and tortes to pies and pavlovas – for an additional £3.50 a head, rounding off a wholesome main with an equally tasty treat.

Epicurus don’t just provide the food. We also erect our own 3m x 3m catering gazebo, white linen for the service counter, all of the associated crockery, cutlery and napkins for your guests, and a dedicated chef and server(s) for a total of four hours.
